Yearbook 2021

Rice House Report

Well, what a year it has been! With the challenges of COVID-19 changing the way we learn and the way we live, the wellbeing of the Rice students have been at the forefront of my mind. Finding ways we can challenge ourselves to develop our wellbeing using non- traditional methods has been of utmost importance. As a House, we continue to grow from strength to strength. Each student has been challenged to step outside of their comfort zone each term. It has also been really encouraging to see the development within our House of our College vision to ‘Live Spiritually, Learn Dynamically and Act Justly and inspiring futures of hope’. Some of the highlights for 2021 have included; various students succeeding at archdiocesan levels for sport, those who have volunteered their time to raise funds for local charities, Dine and Donate, St Vincent de Paul. Rice House had exceptional participation at the Athletics Carnival and took out the title of Champion House for the day. Our overall position in the House Award points system is improving with Rice finishing in second position. I would like to wholeheartedly thank the wonderful Rice House pastoral care team for 2021, Mrs Jessica McInerney, Mr Damien Foley, Mrs Liz Igoe-Taylor, Miss Lucy Woods, Ms Camille Carberry, Mr Paul McAllister, Miss Bonnie Chen, Mrs Brooke McCann, Mrs Janice Dunk, Mr Conor Quinn, Mrs Leanne Parkman and Mrs Suzanne Duff for the wonderful support they have given the students within their Pastoral classes. Also the support staff that are involved in Rice House, Bob Ashton and Katrina Hudson. I also would like to thank Justin Garlick and Grace Gibson for their hard work and dedication as Rice House Captains along with Halle Dreverman the Vice Captain for 2021. I welcome our new Rice Captains, Nick Louttit and Trysta Willoughby for the 2021-2022 year. As we move into 2022, I look forward with enthusiasm for the challenges that a new era with Covid- normal will bring to all of our lives, and certainly to Rice House staff and students. I would like to publicly thank the students, parents and staff of Rice House for all of their support during the year and I pray that we can continue to find ways to let the ‘good seed' grow in our hearts and minds.
